Lujiazui

Lujiazui which located on the Bank of the Huangpu River in Pudong, and opposite to the Bund. It is one of the most important financial centers in the world. Oriental Pearl TV Tower




The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is located in Lujiazui, Shanghai. Surrounded by the Yangpu Bridge in the northeast and the Nanpu Bridge in the southwest, it creates a picture of 'twin dragons playing with pearls'. The entire scene is a photographic jewel that excites the imagination and attracts thousands of visitors year-round.


This 468 meters (1,536 feet) high tower is the world's sixth and China's second tallest TV and radio tower. However, even more alluring than its height is the unique architectural design that makes Oriental Pearl TV Tower one of the most attractive places anywhere. Its base is supported by three seven-meter wide slanting stanchions. Surrounding the eleven steel spheres that are 'strung' vertically through the center are three nine-meter wide columns.There are three large spheres including the top sphere, known as the space module. Then there are five smaller spheres and three decorative spheres on the base. The entire structure rests on rich green grassland and gives the appearance of pearls shining on a jade plate.


It is amazing that this ultra-modern Oriental Pearl TV Tower combines ancient concepts such as the spherical pearls, with 21st Century technology, commerce, recreation, educational and conference facilities. It really is a TV and radio tower that services the city with more than nine television channels and upwards of ten FM radio channels. Truly, 'oriental pearl' is the most suitable name for it.


Jinmao Tower




Being the third tallest building only to Shanghai Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center in Shanghai, Jin Mao Tower is located in the center of Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone in Pudong. It can be conveniently accessed from either Puxi (the area west of the Hungpu River) by taking the tunnel (travel time is about two minutes) or the Hongqiao and Pudong International Airports (travel time is about 30 minutes) by car.


The 88-stories Jin Mao Tower was completed in 1999. It is 420.5 meters (almost 1,380 feet) tall and covers an area of 2.3 hectares (5.68 acres). The architect, Adrian D. Smith, of this skyscraper ingeniously combined the elements of traditional Chinese culture with the newest architectural styles of the time, which makes it one of the best-constructed buildings in China.


This building includes modern offices, a deluxe 5-star hotel - the Grand Hyatt Shanghai, exhibition halls, banquet halls, an observation deck, and entertainment facilities. The 88th floor-the highest floor, is reserved for the tower's observation deck, which can hold 1000 people at any one time.


The tower has the best elevators available. Two direct elevators operate at the speed of 9.1 meters (nearly 30 feet) per second that can send visitors from the ground floor to the 88th floor for only 45 seconds. There are also five to six elevators every 10 floors, which reduce waiting-time to 35 seconds even during rush hours.


The basement of the tower is a parking area 3 stories deep, which can hold 800 cars and 2,000 bicycles. The parking area is equipped with 360-degree surveillance cameras as a security feature of the building.


Shanghai World Financial Center

Standing in the center of Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone in Pudong and neighbouring Shanghai Tower and Jinmao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC) was completed in August 28, 2008, being the second tallest skyscraper in mainland China. Having 101 floors with a height of 492 meters (about 1,614 feet), it ranked the top in the heights of roof and usable floor by the time when it was built, announced by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).


Aiming to be a magnet of the world's finance, the building boasts functions of first class financial centers, able to showcase monetary talents, cultural and art exhibitions and information from all over the world. Modern office facilities, sightseeing floor at 474 meters (about 1,555 feet) above the ground, luxury hotel and multi-function meeting facilities are all available here, and over twenty multinational financial institutions will move into the ultra-modern building. More than forty enterprises from Japan and American invested together to construct this high-rises building.


The entrance of the observatory is in Basement 1 on the west side of the building (just opposite the Jinmao Building). Tickets are sold here and visitors can take the elevator directly to the sightseeing platform. There is also a beautiful sight of the whole city from the Park Hyatt Hotel. The hotel's lobby, with cocktail bar, is on the 87th floor, overlooking Pudong. Overlooking the entire city from the 100 Century Avenue Restaurant on the 91st floor appeals to all senses, with a perfect perspective to see the top of the near neighbor Jinmao Building, the full extent of Pudong and the Oriental Pearl Tower as well as many symbolic landmarks of Shanghai.


Shanghai Tower




The tower stands 632 meters (about 2,073 feet) high and ranks as China's tallest building and second only to the world at large. The foot print takes up 30,368 square meters (about 326,878 square feet) with floor space of about 576,000 square meters (about 6,200,012 square feet), with 5 basement levels, 127 floors above ground and 5 podium floors. Visitors can take the express elevator to the sightseeing deck on the 119th floor directly and a whole ride only takes 55 seconds.


The exterior of the building spirals upward like a snake. It twists about one degree per floor to offset the wind effect on higher altitude. This is very important to a super tall building in Shanghai to withstand frequent typhoons.The tower sports two glass facades, an inner one and an outer one, like overlapping "tubes". The space between the two "tubes" varies from 1 to 10 meters (3 to 33 feet) wide, providing more public space inside the building. At the mean time, the space functions as a heat insulation layer like in a thermos flask. This is environment-friendly and costing less.


As a complex super tall building, Shanghai Tower is subdivided into five main functional areas: 24-hour offices for multinational companies and financial services; super five-star hotels and support facilities, offering personalized service and amenities; high end retail shops etc; recreation zone, forming a new business and cultural center in Shanghai, a clear departure from ghost town image of Lujiazui after working hours; conference facilities, including sightseeing rooms in upper floors, and a multifunction conference center measuring over 2,000 square meters (about 21,528 square feet) and a multifunction banquet hall measuring more than 1,000 square meters (about 10,764 square feet) in podium building.


IFC Mall

Riverside Promenade in Shanghai lies along the Huangpu River in Pudong New Area with a 2500 meters length. In the opposite of Riverside Promenade, it is the famous Bund of Shanghai.
