Airport



There are two airports in Shanghai, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Respectively located in both sides of the city. The code of the Pudong airport is PVG.  Most of the international flights are concentrated here. The code of the Hongqiao airport is SHA. Most of the flights are domestic flights, with the exception of a few flights to Japan and Korea.

Metro Lines

At present, there are 21 metro lines (line 1-18, Pujiang Line, Airport Link Line and Maglev Line) in Shanghai. There are also transfer points between these lines. Airport Link starts running on Dec. 27th, 2024

This seamless journey became reality with the inauguration of the Shanghai Airport Link Line on Dec 27.

The Airport Link Line offers a speedy ride at around 160 km/h — twice as fast as the average subway trip.


There are seven stations on the route — Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 station, Zhongchun Road station, Jinghong Road station, South Sanlin station, East Kangqiao station, Shanghai International Resort station and Pudong Airport T1 & T2 station.


The starting price for the line is 4 yuan (55 cents) while the full journey costs 26 yuan. Trains run by every 15 minutes. The first trains from both terminal stations depart at 6 am and the last trains at 10:39 pm each day.

Metro Line System


Shanghai metro station is sold one-day ticket and three-days ticket. It’s convenient to travel in Shanghai for visitors. One-day ticket: 18 yuan fare, used for all metro lines for an unlimited numbers of times during the first use of 24 hours of operation period. (except maglev line); tickets: 45 yuan fare, used for all metro lines for an unlimited numbers of times during the first use of 72 hours of operation period.(except maglev line).


The subsection fare system for subway fare is 0-6 kilometers, 3 yuan, and 1 yuan per 10 kilometers after 6 kilometers. You can buy a one-way ticket at the subway station or use the Shanghai public transportation card.


Note: Using a one-way ticket at the transfer station to transfer to the subway line is not required to buy the ticket again (If there are some signs in the station, please follow up).


Subway operation time start between 5:30 am and 6:30 am, end between 10:30 pm and 11:30 pm. Each line and each station has a different timetable. You can ask the staff for more details. And you can also find some signs in the metro station.


The metro lines are easy to travel. And they almost cover all the important scenic spots and the busy commercial streets in Shanghai. Therefore, it is very important to know the map of the Shanghai metro lines. It can save a lot of time to check the route before going out. If you get lost in the subway, you can also ask the staff for help.

Maglev Train


Shanghai maglev train line start from metro Line 2 Longyang Road station in the west, to Shanghai Pudong International Airport in the east. The length is 29.863 kilometers. It is the first business maglev line in the world with the cooperation of China and German. The maximum speed of the design of Shanghai maglev train is 430 kilometers per hour, only after the speed of the aircraft. From the Longyang Road station to Pudong International Airport, it takes only 7~8 minutes.


Timetable:

From Longyang Road staionto Pudong airport, the first train is 6:45, and the last train is 21:40.

From Pudong airport to Longyang Road station, the first train is 7:02, and the last train is 21:42.

Bus

Basically, the bus in Shanghai has been basically completed the upgrading of air condition. The fare of single ride is 2 yuan. The suburban bus from 1 yuan to 11 yuan, according to the length of the bus line. Due to the existence of a large number of one-way streets, Shanghai buses often have different routes for go and back ways. If you prepare to take the same line back, it is best to find out where the return station is before getting off. Shanghai public transportation is very crowded at rush hour(7:00am-9:00am, 17:00 -20:00). Traffic jam is very serious. It’s better to avoid this period.

Taxi


Shanghai taxi, as an important supplement to public transportation, is operated by a number of companies. There are four large group companies in general: Dazhong, Qiangsheng, Jinjiang, Haibo. The start fare is 14 yuan /3 km (Touran is 16 yuan /3 km), 3-15 km fare is 2.5 yuan / km, above 15 km is 3.6 yuan / km. Low speed waiting fee for every 4 minutes is the same as one kilometer fare. At night (from 23:00 to 5:00 on the next day), the fare will increase by 30%.

Sightseeing bus


For tourists who only have a short layover in Shanghai, taking a sightseeing bus to explore the beauty of the city undoubtedly is a good idea. In this way, visitors can squeeze limited time to tour around more must-sees during their one- or two-day trip.

Currently, two types of open-top double-decker sightseeing buses are available – City Sightseeing Bus with five lines. Tourists can have unlimited hop-on and hop-off with either the 24-hour or 48-hour tickets. They may either have a through trip or stop at any station of their choosing. Free route map and earphones are provided. Free audio guides in eight different languages – Chinese, English, Korean, French, Spanish, German, Russian, and Japanese enable tourists to learn about the city.
